Preferred Skills
• FPE or CFPS or equivalent designation in fire protection;
or the attainment of such a designation within 6 months of employment
• minimum of 12 years in property fire protection engineering
or related field. Previous work experience should have included
some form of account management.
• minimum of 10 years in field survey work of client facilities
for fire protection engineering or related field. The majority of
this work should have been in industrial type occupancies, with
typical location combined value >$50,000,000. A verifiable list
of sample previous survey locations should be available.
• majority of previous work experience required in-depth knowledge
and application of the standards published by the National Fire
Protection Association and/or by Factory Mutual. Previous work experience
should include (1) technical evaluation of adequacy of water supplies;
(2) technical evaluation of adequacy of sprinkler systems and other
fire protection equipment; (3) technical evaluation of common or
special hazards, such as Black Liquor Recovery Boilers, heat transfer
medium, dust hazards, warehousing, etc.; (4) physical testing and
evaluation of fire pumps, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, fire
alarm systems, and other related fire protection equipment; (5)
plan review for new or revised fire protection.
• majority of previous work experience required completion
of documentation. Writing style must be clear, coherent, concise
and complete.
• minimum of 5 years experience in working with a computer
and common computer programs such as MS Word or WordPerfect (word
processing programs), Lotus or Excel (spreadsheet programs), MS
Outlook (communications programs).
• familiarity with MS Access or similar database program.
Competency with current database program must meet internal standards
within 3 months of hire. Note that this requirement could be more
intense for employees hired into an Account Management function.
• familiarity with ACAD or similar drawing program. Competency
with current drawing platform must meet internal standards within
12 months of hire.
• familiarity with FireACAD or similar hydraulics program.
Competency with the current hydraulics platform must meet internal
standards within 6 months of hire.
